ABLETON
LIVE 4.0 (Mac/Win)
Web Clip 1:
This clip uses a Simpler with an imported acoustic bass hit, an Impulse with one of the factory drum kits, and a second Impulse with effects loaded into the pads. The Random and Scale MIDI effects are used to add variety to the two Impulse parts.
Web Clip 2:
Live's Random, Scale, and Chord effects are combined to generate four-way close harmony from a random melody.
Web Clip 3:
Live's Automatic Jamming feature is used here to switch among different MIDI clips playing two Simplers and an Impulse.
ARTURIA
STORM 3.0 (Mac/Win)
Web Clip 1:
This clip illustrates a simple bass line processed with an array of Storm's effects. The Bass line is sent the Dual Delays and Ring Mod effects. The Dual Delays effect is sent to the Seq Filter effect which in turn is sent to the Vocoder.
Web Clip 2:
This clip begins with an imported, three-part MIDI file. The GMSynth electric piano part is doubled on clavinet with Storm's Orpheus synthesizer, and the GMSynth drums are eventually replaced by Storm's Hork and Puma drum modules.
Web Clip 3:
This clip was made in about five minutes using Storm's Composition Wizard in the Electro Pop style.
CYCLING '74

Seven examples of extended sound effects made with Mode's mono drum synth, Bang.

NATIVE INSTRUMENTS
GUITAR RIG 1.1 (Mac/Win)
All examples were recorded using an ESP 400 series strat-style guitar with Fender Lace Sensor pickups, direct into MOTU's Digital Performer, running on a dual G5/2 GHz Mac through a MOTU 828mkII interface.
Web Clip 1:
This example was recorded with a Guitar Rig preset that features the Instant Gratifier amp model, which emulates Mesa/Boogie sounds.
Web Clip 2:
Both guitars in this example are recorded with presets using the Fender-like Twang Reverb model. The rhythm uses a clean sound and the lead has a hint of the Skreamer pedal, which is modeled from the Ibanez Tube Screamer.
Web Clip 3:
This clip features a preset called Dark Horse Vox, which uses the AC Box model. This preset, along with many others is available for download to registered Guitar Rig owners from the Native Instruments site (www.native-instruments.com).
Web Clip 4:
In this example, you hear the stereo Leslie effect of the Rotator component, one of the many modulation effects available in Guitar Rig.

SONIC REALITY
Sonic Refills Vol. 12: Acoustic Folk
Web Clip 1:
Here's a Bluegrass arrangement of the traditional tune Paddy on the Turnpike using the Sonic Reality Sonic Refills Vol. 12: Acoustic Folk collection. Thanks to Bob Applebaum for the MIDI mandolin tracks and the second fiddle solo.
YELLOW TOOLS
Majestic (Mac/Win)
Web Clip 1:
A fretless bass from Yellow Tools Majestic helped me enable my inner Jaco Pastorius. Crossfading between natural vibrato and non-vibrato samples using the mod wheel, while riding the Pitch-Bend wheel judiciously, enhances the realism. Drums and percussion courtesy of FXPansion BFD and Plugsound Drums and Percussions.
VIRSYN SOFTWARE SYNTHESIZER
CANTOR 1.02 (Mac/Win)
Web Clip 1:
This clip uses eight of Cantor's preset voices in a musical-comedy rendition of, "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
