Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH has announced Cubase Essential 4 (Mac/Win; $149 MSRP). As a light version of the Cubase 4 music production system, Cubase Essential 4 offers a compact set of audio recording and mixing tools, MIDI tools, and VST3 plug-ins at a fraction of the price of the original.

Cubase Essential 4 has 64 audio tracks, unlimited MIDI tracks, 44 VST3 and MIDI plug-ins, 16 VST instrument slots, and latency compensation. The included HALionOne sampling instrument offers more than 100 playable instruments, including waves from the Yamaha Motif synthesizer; and the built-in Amp Simulator provides guitar recording with 14 amps and 10 speaker simulations.

Additional features for Cubase Essential 4 include AudioWarp real-time time stretching and pitch shifting, an Arranger Track with pattern-based arranging tools, MediaBay sound management technology, instrument tracks, track presets, drag and drop capability for effects and plug-ins, and much more.
