iZotope, Inc. has updated its iDrum virtual drum machine software to version 1.6, making it compatible with Windows XP/Vista.

According to the manufacturer, iDrum turns a computer into a virtual drum machine. The software builds rhythmic patterns quickly, comes with a built-in step sequencer, and has hundreds of included sounds and patterns in a variety of musical styles. You can create beats in iDrum by using its step sequencer or by playing such external controllers as a MIDI controller, electronic drum kit, or a QWERTY keyboard.

iDrum runs as a standalone native Mac OS X and Windows application, and as a plug-in for Digidesign Pro Tools, Apple GarageBand, Apple Logic, Ableton Live, Cakewalk Sonar, Steinberg Cubase, and more.

The included drum samples are arranged into approximately 200 files, each with separate preset patterns. You can mix and match parts, samples, and kits, as well as create customized kits by importing your own WAV and AIFF files. The update is free for registered iDrum customers.
