In partnership with Sibelius Software, In the Chair has announced StarPlay, instrument learning software that simulates the feeling of playing with professional musicians and conductors in bands and orchestras. StarPlay incorporates Scorch technology, Sibelius's Web delivery technology for sheet music.

With StarPlay, you can play your chosen instrument along to an on-screen score. As you play, you see a synchronized video of a professional conductor and see and hear the surrounding orchestra or ensemble. The software listens as you play and provides live feedback on pitch, timing, tone, and dynamics. It also allows you to play back your performance.

StarPlay links directly to SibeliusMusic.com, allowing you to choose from over 60,000 works of music to play. In addition, the software allows you to edit and create your own scores for StarPlay using Sibelius 4 music notation software.

All that is needed to use the software is a computer and a microphone. No MIDI equipment is required.

StarPlay will be available initially as a monthly or yearly online subscription. Upon release, subscription pricing will be $12.99 per month, or $99 for a one-year subscription. School pricing will be $25 per subscription after the purchase of one-year subscription at $99. A boxed product with full offline functionality will be available in mid-2007.
