Vienna Symphonic Library Bösendorfer 290 Imperial and Vienna Konzerthaus Organ

Releasing its first collections of sampled keyboard instruments, the Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) announces Bösendorfer 290 Imperial (Mac/Win; $315) and Vienna Konzerthaus Organ (Mac/Win; $595).

With nine sub-bass tones and an eight-octave keyboard range, the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial comprises a 54 GB sample set of unlooped sustain selections (pedal up and pedal down), tone repetitions, sustain-pedal resonances, releases, and key noises. The collection touches on many of the piano's nuances—including its resonating state and the sounds resulting from striking an already-vibrating string—and eschews sample manipulations, fades between tones, and DSP calculations, according to VSL.

Vienna Konzerthaus Organ is a 14 GB collection of stereo samples recorded with the Rieger Organ at Vienna's Wiener Konzerthaus. Covering three manuals with 38 single stops and one pedal with 18 single stops, the instrument also includes a variety of preset combinations, isolated valve samples, room noise, and wind-chest idling. Vienna Konzerthaus Organ also conveys the MIDI technology implemented in the Rieger Organ.

The Bösendorfer Imperial and the Vienna Konzerthaus Organ instruments can run standalone or as VST or AU plug-ins. Both ship with full sample sets, sampling engine, and software instrument.
