ALLEN & HEATH ZED MIXERS: ZED is a series of small-format, USB-equipped mixers for live performance, recording, and production. The ZED-14 has six mono channels (with 3-band, swept mid EQ) and four stereo channels (with 2-band EQ) and provides: 13 independent sources to the mix; 10 independent outs; two pre-fade/two post-fade aux sends; and a USB send and return for PC/Mac recording/playback/effects. The first of the ZED series (four more models are planned), ZED-14 ships with Cakewalk SONAR LE Windows Vista/XP recording software. NAMM Booth #6474.

AVLEX MX8-1RM MIC LINE MIXER: Designed for multiple applications, the single-rackspace MX8-1RM mixer from Avlex supports eight mic/line channels, each with its own volume and tone control. The rear panel has six channels with balanced XLR and TRS mic/line inputs, and two channels of RCA unbalanced line inputs and TRS balanced mic/line inputs. Outputs are TRS and XLR balanced, and two mixers can be cascaded for 16 total inputs. Retail is $240 and it’s shipping now. NAMM Booth #6810.

EDIROL M-10DX DIGITAL MIXER: Meant to be more portable and affordable than its big brother, the M-16DX, the M-10DX ($499) 10-channel digital mixer from Edirol features a 24-bit/96kHz processing engine (the same engine featured on the M-16DX), backlit LCD, built-in COSM effects, and dedicated channel controls for 3-band EQ, pan, aux, select and level. The unit also offers two phantom-powered mic preamps, 10 line inputs and headphone output, and it includes Room Acoustic Control software for room compensation. NAMM Booth #2664.
EDIROL M-16DX VERSION 2 SOFTWARE: The M-16DX digital production console from Edirol features 18 inputs, mixing, 24/96 processing, a 3-band sweepable EQ and three pro-quality effects. When run with the free V. 2 software upgrade, the unit can be used with Cakewalk SONAR and Apple Logic, allowing these DAWs to be controlled out of the box, with the knobs on the hardware mixer assigning to their equivalent software controllers. In Logic, for example, the M-16DX appears in the software's list of compatible controllers and the equivalent controls are tied together automatically once it's selected. The application can also be used to control other software such as Reason and Ableton Live through its MIDI Learn facility. This feature enables any user to make full use of the 54 hardware knobs and numerous assignable buttons on the mixer surface to control the functions of a variety of DAWs and virtual instruments. GEMINI MM-3000 DJ MIXER: The MM-3000 ($249.95) has five channels outfitted with two RCA phono/line inputs, 3-band EQ and a volume fader. It also includes an iPod connector and mic input. PIONEER SVM-1000 A/V DJ MIXER: Crammed full of features, the Pioneer SVM-1000 ($5,999) audio/video DJ mixer tears down the walls between DJing and VJing. Each of the SVM-1000's four channels can operate as a video input (with or without audio) or an audio-only input. Pioneer's new Multiple Video Blending Technology with full A/V effects section is controlled via an 11-inch LCD touchscreen. Effects include 12 AV Beat Effects that synchronize to bpm, 12 AV Touch Effects that allow Kaoss-like use of the touchscreen to manipulate visuals and Text Effects that display and manipulate messages entered via the touchscreen or a USB keyboard, all in sync to bpm. A JPEG viewer allows using effects, looping or mixing with as many as eight still images. The audio system uses 24-bit/96 kHz A/D conversion. SOUNDCRAFT FX MIXERS: These three new FX mixers offer pro features, as well as 32 Lexicon 24-bit digital effects . The Soundcraft FX16ii, which descends from the Spirit FX16, offers 26 inputs, 16 direct outputs, four stereo returns and rotating connector pod allowing cables to be connected conveniently behind the rack to save space. The EFX(tm) is available in 8- and 12-channel versions. It features the GB30 mic preamp, one aux send and one FX send on each channel. The MFX(tm) has two group buses, two aux sends, one FX send on each channel and two stereo input channels, all offered in three frame sizes: eight, 12 and 20 inputs. NAMM Booth #7800.

YAMAHA MG SERIES MIXERS: Yamaha outs six upgraded MG Series analog mixers adding to the four shown earlier this year. Single-knob input compressors help users set up a mix quickly. Other features include redesigned faders/EQs/preamps and high-output LED meters readable even in bright daylight. Two models (MG16/6CX and MG16/6CX-USB) offer digital SPX multieffects.
