photo of Sterling Audio ST55 mic

Sterling Audio large-diaphragm condenser microphones feature large capsules with the Disk Resonator system, which compensates for the 14 kHz frequency roll-off common in large diaphragm mics.

Disk Resonator technology incorporates a gold-plated brass “umbrella” that protrudes from the center of the diaphragm in Sterling Audio’s ST55 and ST66 mics. According to the manufacturer, it boosts the diaphragm sensitivity to shorter sound waves, allowing it to respond more accurately to higher frequencies.

The mics also feature a Mylar diaphragm membrane that is 3 microns thick. The ST66 uses triode wiring on miniature pentode tubes, and its power supply has a load-balancing circuitry that allows cable runs of more than 200 feet.
