VOX Amplification has released JamVOX (Mac/Win; $340), a combination software/hardware modeling interface with GXT Guitar XTracktion technology. JamVox offers drag-and-drop access to just about any combination of amp and effects models, and it allows you to import your own MP3 library, iTunes library, or CD tracks.
Korg's GXT Guitar XTracktion technology lets you extract or "solo" guitar and vocal parts, or reduce and mute them from any prerecorded track. Furthermore, the unit's WAV and AIFF recording capabilities allow you to record your own performances over a track; just plug in a guitar or microphone to the USB-powered hardware component. According to the manufacturer, JamCOX an ideal tool for practicing, jamming, and recording.
JamVOX offers 19 modeled guitar amplifiers, 12 cabinets, 54 vintage and modern effects, and a number of guitar pickup simulations. Each of the 100-plus preset programs features 1 amp/cabinet combination, a chain of up to 5 effects, and noise reduction. User programs can be saved and/or shared online. Additional features include time stretching, pitch shifting, loop record and playback, a Korg chromatic tuner, and an array of drum tracks.
The amp/speaker hardware interface has two 3-inch, full-range speakers and two bass reflex ports. The front panel includes a guitar input, XLR microphone input, and input level control, line output level control, a headphone output, and monitor/headphone level control. The back panel provides L/R line inputs, L/R line outputs, a footswitch port, an expression pedal port, and a USB port for connection of the JamVOX guitar/vocal interface to a computer. The hardware component measures 9.45" W x 6.3" D x 4.82" H, and comes in a matte-black finish with a metal grill.
