SoundTech Professional Audio has announced the new Ediface Digital Guitar Interface (Mac/Win), which lets guitars communicate directly with computers. The Ediface Digital Guitar Interface has a pick-up and converter that attaches directly to any electric, acoustic electric, or acoustic guitar. Plug and play without installing any drivers.

Just one of the things you can do with the Ediface is use a real guitar with computer games—a leap beyond using a toy controller with push buttons to imitate guitar-playing. The Ediface package comes with the Guitar Wizard gaming software for learning to play a real guitar while jamming along to popular songs.

You can also use the Ediface to play sampled sounds or synthesized instruments through a DAW, as well as convert recorded songs into sheet music. It's not available yet, but it is expected to be released sometime in early 2008.
