Zoom has announced the MRS-1608CD, a 16-track portable digital studio that records to a 40 GB internal hard drive. The device offers digital editing, signal processing, programmable drum and bass tracks, and a bank of 12 touch-sensitive pads.

The MRS-1608CD lets you record eight tracks at a time and offers 16 top level tracks, each with 10 virtual tracks. The eight analog inputs have XLR/1/4-inch combo jacks, four of which provide phantom power.

The MRS-1608CD includes a sampler function that allows you to assign part of your V-takes or WAV/AIFF flies to the drum pads. The device comes with more than 100 drum and bass sounds, including 40 sampled drum kits and 20 sampled bass sounds. There are 500 user programmable patterns available per song. Pre-recorded beats and phrases can also be imported using the CD-R/RW drive, and up to 100 samples can be stored per project.

The MRS-1608 has hundreds of customizable digital effects for mics and instruments, as well as Zoom’s VAMS (Variable Architecture Modeling System) guitar amp modeling. You can use up to seven effects simultaneously, with adjustable EQ and pan controls for each channel. For more information, visit www.samsontech.com. www.zoom.co.jp/english/englishie_index.html
