Zoom has announced the MRS-1608 and 1608CD recorders,each of which offers 16 tracks, 160 V-Takes, a 40 GB hard drive, andthe ability to record 8 inputs simultaneously.
The MRS-1608 and 1608CD have a programmable drum and bass machineand a 12-key, touch-sensitive, chromatic-scale input pad that can bealso used to trigger samples or V-takes. New editing features includeTime Stretch, which allows you to change the tempo without altering thepitch; Pitch Fix allows you change and correct pitches in a track;Harmony Generate creates a 3-part harmony to match the programmed chordfor a given track event; Reverse plays the audio from a trackbackwards. The MRS-1608 and 1608CD also includes 40 sampled drum kitsand 20 sampled bass sounds with 475 preset patterns.
Up to eight mics or instruments can be plugged in at once, and eighttracks can be recorded simultaneously. Both units offer eight combojacks (with +48V phantom power) that accept XLR and 1/4-inch inputs.Each of the inputs can have individual compression and EQ effectsapplied. The units also offer 1/4-inch high-impedance jacks forinstrument and unbalanced RCA jacks. The 1608CD offers disc-at-onceCD-R/RW recording with assignable track numbers.
