Spectrasonics has released Omnisphere (Mac/Win; $499) a new virtual instrument that combines a variety of hybrid real-time synthesis techniques, a library of psychoacoustic sounds, and more.
Omnisphere features a host of hybrid synthesis and control capabilities, including variable waveshaping DSP synthesis, granular synthesis, timbre shifting, FM, polyphonic ring modulation, high-resolution streaming sample playback, Harmonia, Dual Multimode Filter structure, Chaos Envelopes, an advanced Unison mode, and the Flex-Mod modulation routing system. It also features a Stack Mode interface (for complex patch layering, splits, and crossfades), eight independent Arpeggiators, MIDI Learn and Automation parameter handling, and it is 8-part multitimbral with a built-in mixer, aux effects, and mastering effects racks.
Its more than 40 GB core library includes psychoacoustic sounds and soundsources created with a Composite Morphing Technique (CMT) that morphs the harmonic characteristics of one instrument to another. The core library also showcases Spectrasonics' sample libraries and integrates the original Atmosphere core library. Furthermore, the instrument comes with an in-depth set of video tutorials and synthesis lessons taught by the Spectrasonics sound design team.
Omnisphere is cross-platform compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 and higher as a native Universal Binary for Intel-Macs and also with Windows XP/Vista. The virtual instrument supports AU, VST, and RTAS plug-in formats and is compatible with all major host software.
Current Atmosphere customers may upgrade to Omnisphere through the online Spectrasonics Techshop. For more information, please visit spectrasonics.net.
