Primacoustic has announced the Stratus, an "above-console" acoustic cloud that absorbs early reflections, flutter echo, and control room resonance. The Stratus comes complete with a 2-inch thick, 24 x 48-inch, 6 pound per cubic foot acoustic fiberglass panel that is wrapped in micromesh and treated with resin around the edges. In addition, the panel is then covered in an acoustically transparent fabric.
The Stratus has two aluminum outer rails, which are bridged together with L-shaped beams, and the device is suspended using wire above the console. The unit is not called Stratus for nothing; according to the manufacturer, the Stratus acoustic clouds are meant to be clustered in groups to span the width of the console to create cloud formations. They are also meant to be angled in order to vary the air space between the Stratus and the ceiling and help control a broad frequency spectrum.
