M-Audio has announced the MicroTrack II handheld digital recorder ($499.95).
The MicroTrack II features a built-in analog input limiter, 48V phantom power, an extended input gain range, S/PDIF headphone monitoring, and USB 2.0 connectivity. A handy feature of this recorder is that it allows you to place markers in BWF files while you record so that you can find certain sections later. It also lets you organize files within folders, create multipart WAV recordings that are larger than 2 GB in size, and record WAV and MP3 files to CompactFlash cards or Microdrives. It records at 24-bit, 96 kHz and has balanced ¼-inch TRS line inputs, a S/PDIF input, and 1/8”-inch stereo headphone jack or RCA line outputs.
The unit comes with a T-shaped stereo electret microphone, earbuds, an 1/8-inch stereo extender cable, a carrying case with microphone pouch, a power supply unit with a USB connector, and cables. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the MicroTrack II can record for about four to five hours on one charge (or about three hours with phantom power engaged). The internal battery can be recharded by connecting the recorder to a computer via USB, or by using the included power supply.
Expect the MicroTrack II to ship later in 2007. For more information, visit www.m-audio.com.
