Eowave has released the Persephone, an analog synth with a built-in ribbon keyboard that is reminiscent of early 20th century electronic musical instruments. However, the Persephone offers modern conveniences such as CV and MIDI I/O, so it can be used with external analog and MIDI instruments.
The Persephone has an analog oscillator with a 10-octave range, a 12 dB lowpass filter, a modulation section, and an LFO. However, all of the controls are digital. The oscillator waveform is continuously variable between triangle and sawtooth. The four playing modes A, B, C and Doffer different types of control between pitch, Velocity, filter modulation, and LFO.
The ribbon senses pressure and position, and the Persephone has a scaling control that lets you set the ribbon's horizontal range as 1, 2, 5, or 10 octaves. All of the connectors are located on the rear side of the instrument and are protected from dust and damage by the suitcase top.
The Persephone is available in two models: a suitcase version (1090 Euros) and a desktop version (890 Euros). However, Eowave is offering a special introductory price until April 1, 2006, where the suitcase version is priced at 860 Euros and the desktop version goes for 660 Euros.
For more information, visit the Web site of Eowave's US distributor, Analogue Haven. Audio samples will be available online soon at www.eowave.com.
