EastWest NAMM 2008 Announcements

At the 2008 Winter NAMM Convention this month, EastWest made a number of announcements: "Quantum Leap SD2 - The Next Generation" virtual instrument ($495) is shipping; EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra has been updated with the Play 64-bit sampling engine; Quantum Leap Goliath is shipping; and the Quantum Leap Complete Composers Collection has just been released.

“SD2 – The Next Generation" offers more than 12 GB of percussion sounds sampled from professional percussionists. Many unique instruments were sampled; among those included in this collection are Tibetan, Indian, and Chinese bells and gongs, bowed gongs and bowls, Indonesian hand drums, Anklung, Udu, and Chinese bowl drums, a 5-foot O Daiko, and more. The SD2 virtual instrument also features MIDI performances created with Roland V-Drums and Zendrum percussion controllers, all premixed, panned, and produced for easy use. In addition, SD2 provides access to 100 film score-oriented MIDI performances, with many variations, intros, and endings. With the SD2 software, you can create your own MIDI performance variations by tweaking sequence tempo, tone, and dynamics, and adding effects, rhythms, and more sounds.

EastWest has also upgraded EastWest/Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra to the Play 64-bit sampling engine. Play is a multiplatform, 64-bit (with 32-bit compatibility) sampling engine that comes with EastWest's built-in network control that allows you to load instruments onto other computers that are managed by the host computer.

Quantum Leap Goliath (full version: $495, upgrade from Colossus: $149) is a large collection of instruments and sounds in various genres and musical styles. Like Symphonic Orchestra, Quantum Leap Goliath comes equipped with the Play sample engine. Quantum Leap Goliath provides the entire Colossus collection, with 8 GB of new content. In total, this collection has 180 instruments and more than 600 patches for a long list of instruments (please visit EastWest's Web site for complete details).

The company has also introduced the Quantum Leap Complete Composers Collection ($1,195) for Kompakt and Kontakt. This new collection gives users access to more than 130 GB of EastWest virtual instruments from seven different EastWest collections (Symphonic Orchestra Gold Complete, Symphonic Choirs, Symphonic Choirs, Colossus, Ra, Stormdrum, Percussive Adventures 2, and Bösendorfer 290). Furthermore, the collection comes with Native Instruments Kompakt player.
