Digidesign has shipped Pro Tools 7.4 (Mac/Win). The updated software offers new music and post-production features, including the Elastic Time composition and production tool, better networking compatibility with Avid Unity ISIS shared storage systems, and support for HD video workflow.
According to the manufacturer, Elastic Time allows you to change the tempo and timing of sound files in real time without cutting up audio tracks, meaning that you can audition or import loops and audio files and have them sync with the session tempo. Elastic Time can also be used to quantize audio to the session grid or extracted grooves as well as fine-tune regions over individual beats.
When run on a separate computer and used with the Video Satellite Option, the Avid Media Station|PT 2.7 software lets you play Avid video sequences in sync with Pro Tools|HD without hogging memory on the computer you are using for Pro Tools. If you are a Pro Tools HD 7.4 user (in Windows XP), you can use Avid Unity ISIS streaming to record and playback audio and video from Avid ISIS shared storage systems.
At this time, Pro Tools 7.4 software is available for Windows XP and Vista and Mac OS X Tiger. Expanded Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard support will be available at a later time.
Registered Pro Tools users are eligible for a free upgrade to version 7.4, depending on when they purchased their Pro Tools system. Standard pricing is as follows:
Pro Tools HD
$199 standard upgrade
$79 upgrade from Pro Tools HD 7.3
Pro Tools LE/M-Powered
$75 standard upgrade
$49 upgrade from Pro Tools LE/M-Powered 7.3
