Core Sound Has New Products For PDAudio

Core Sound has announced three new products for its PDAudio handheld, high-resolution, digital-audio recorder system: the 4Mic, the HeadLine, and the 2Phant. The 4Mic ($750) is a portable, handheld, battery-powered 4-channel mic pre-amp and A/D converter that supports 24-bit, 192 kHz audio. Using coaxial and optical S/PDIF interfaces, it provides four discrete output channels, and it can multiplex the four microphone channels into two recorder channels, turning a 2-channel 24-bit, 192 kHz recorder into a 4-channel 24-bit, 96 kHz recorder.

It also includes a few important features that allow it to be used for Ambisonics-type surround-sound recordings. According to Core Sound, it is the only handheld, battery-powered mic pre-amp that can provide a full ten milliamps of 48V phantom power per channel, allowing it to be used with Earthworks, Schoeps, and other microphones with high current requirements. It will run on primary and rechargeable batteries for more than four hours and accepts external battery packs and AC power supplies.

HeadLine ($350) is a handheld DAC and headphone amplifier that offers both headphone and line-level outputs. Powered by two 9V batteries, it accepts digital audio data from coaxial and optical S/PDIF inputs, analog audio from line-level inputs, and feeds analog signals to headphone and line-level outputs.

2Phant ($275) is a portable, battery-powered, 2-channel 48V phantom power supply that sends 10 milliamps of current to both microphones simultaneously. This allows it to power Earthworks, Schoeps, Neumann, AKG, and other mics with high current needs. It runs on two 9V batteries for more than four hours, and the batteries can be hot-swapped during operation for extended continuous operation.
