CEntrance, Inc. has released the AxePort Pro USB Direct Box (Mac/Win; $199.95 MSRP, $149.95 MAP). The AxePort Pro allows guitarists and bassists to quickly and easily record music, jam along with plug-ins, or practice silently using headphones. In addition to playing solo, you may use the unit to play with other musicians remotely; just plug into a computer, record your part, and send it to be mixed.
The AxePort Pro features a low-noise, high impedance preamp; 24-bit, 96 kHz audio quality; a USB interface; a wide gain range that accommodates active and passive pickups; a "wet/dry" slider in the Universal Driver software control panel, which allows you to mix the "dry" zero-latency input signal with the "wet" return from your DAW; and much more. It is compact in size, has a rugged aluminum chassis, and is nondependent on an external power supply (all power is drawn from the USB port).
Included with the AxePort Pro is a 1 GB CEntrance USB flash drive, which contains Cockos Reaper multitrack recording software, Stillwell Audio Oligarc guitar effects plug-ins, and the CEntrance ASIO/GSIF Universal Driver. You also get a clip for the belt or guitar strap, a 6-foot USB cable, and a velvet carrying pouch.
