Native Instruments has announced Guitar Rig 2 (Mac/Win; $579). The update features additional amp and cabinet emulations, a full setup of bass gear, more distortion pedals and effects units, modulation capabilities, a live looping module, and Rig Kontrol 2, a pedal board with a built-in USB 2.0 interface. The new amplifier models include the Marshall JCM 800, the Fender Bassman, and the Roland Jazz Chorus.

Guitar Rig 2's setups for bass guitar include emulations of an Ampeg SVT bass head and a selection of six bass cabinets, ranging from 1x15 to 8x10. In addition, there are four microphone models optimized for bass recording, as well as specialized distortion and effect modules.

Guitar Rig 2 also increases the number of stomp box emulations and effect units. The additions include a compressor pedal, a classic auto-filter model, and an emulation of the Dunlop Cry Baby Wah pedal. The new Loop Machine has real-time looping capabilities with up to 99 layers.

Native Instruments has added modulation functionality to Guitar Rig 2, including an envelope follower, a multi-breakpoint envelope, an LFO, and two step sequencers. Modulators can be inserted into the virtual rack at any location, in any order and quantity, and can be assigned to nearly any parameter of the setup. A modulation matrix is also included.

The Rig Kontrol 2 pedal board includes a USB 2.0 interface, six buttons, an expression pedal (with a toe button), and plenty of I/O options: two instrument inputs, a balanced stereo output, an adjustable headphone preamp, MIDI I/O, and two pedal jacks.
