Mercury, Soundelux, and Dangerous Music Host AES Party

Mercury Recording Equipment, Soundelux Microphones, and Dangerous Music will host a two-night special event on Friday, October 6, 2006 and Saturday October 7, 2006 during the 121st AES Convention. This event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Hyde Street Studios:

Starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, several seminars will place in the multi-room facility.

First, Mercury Recording Equipment Co. and Soundelux Microphones will host a Vocal Overdub and Mix Session in Hyde Street’s Neve-equipped Studio A. Scheduled special guest engineers include Grammy-nominated Producer-Engineer Mark Needham (The Killers, Chris Isaak, Fleetwood Mac); Grammy award winning engineer Joe Chiccarelli (Zappa, Beck, U2); and 15-time Grammy award winning engineer Al Schmitt (Quincy Jones, Diana Krall, Paul Anka). Vocals will be provided by Chris Karn of Deccatree.

In Studio D, on Hyde Street Studios' second floor, Matt Kelly (George Clinton, Tupac, Digital Underground) will engineer a Hip Hop Vocal/Mix Session on Friday night. Then, award winning Engineer-Mixer Barry Rudolph (The Corrs, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hall & Oates) will give an in-depth Recording Drums Seminar. All Sessions will feature Mercury’s vintage-inspired line of Studio Microphone Amplifiers, Program Equalizers, and Limiting Amplifiers, as well as Soundelux’s full line of Tube and Fet Professional Studio Microphones.

Dangerous Music will host a Mastering Seminar at Mike Wells Mastering, located across the hall from Studio A. Engineer Mike Wells will showcase Dangerous Music’s line of Professional Mastering Equipment, including the Dangerous Master, Dangerous Monitor, and Dangerous MQ.

There will be a tutorial on sum and difference processing and the power of M/S in the mastering environment. The session will feature selected tracks from Deccatree's Battle of Life album mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Chris Lord Alge (Green Day, Jewel, Pussycat Dolls).

Hyde Street is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of operating its world class studio. Present owner Michael Ward has hosted artists such as Green Day, Tupac Sukur, Chris Isaak, Willie Nelson, Cake, and George Clinton over the past 25 years. But the building’s recording history dates back to the late 1960s. Artists of that era such as Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Greatful Dead, and Jefferson Airplane recorded at the studio, which was then owned by Wally Heider, a true pioneer of the recording industry.
