M-Audio Introduces First Software Titles

M-Audio has introduced its first two software titles, Key Rig (Mac/Win; $129.95), a virtual keyboard rack, and Drum and Bass Rig (Mac/Win; $129.95), a virtual bass and drums rack. Both products work in stand-alone mode or as VST, AU, and RTAS plug-ins.

Key Rig includes the SP-1 Stage Piano module, which offers grand pianos, classic electric pianos (including the Wurlitzer), FM synths, and Clavinet sounds, among other instruments. Each preset can hold a combination of two instruments, with individual settings for Mix, Octave, Detune, Velocity, and Tone. Each preset also has its own effect settings, including delay, chorus, and phase shifter.

Key Rig also offers the MS-2 Polyphonic Synthesizer; the Electromagnetic Organ, which emulates the Hammond (complete with rotary speaker and nine drawbars that are pre-mapped to M-Audio USB MIDI controllers); and the GM-4 General MIDI Module, which includes 128 GM instruments and a GM drum kit.

The four modules in Drum and Bass Rig focus on, as you would expect, drum and bass sounds. The LC-5 Loop Creator comes with 250 loops, with options for slice-reordering, slice muting, and group muting of ranges of slices. The BL-6 Bassline module is a monophonic bass synthesizer with a arpeggiator/step sequencer. The RD-7 Real Drums module features a library of kits and individual drums in all styles, with control over tuning, tone, decay, pan, and level. Each kit also has adjustable overhead mics, room ambience, and effects. All kits are GM-compatible and contain an additional standard percussion set.

The EB-8 Electric Bass module offers electric bass guitars, with finger, pick, slap, and fretless sounds, as well as slides, dead notes, and harmonics. The module also includes a bass-amp emulation with drive and tone controls, an effects section, and a virtual analog-synth bass model.
