Korg Announces Two New Models

Korg announced two new models in its ToneWorks Pandora series of small multi-effects processors: the PX4D for guitar and bass, and the PX4A for acoustic-electric guitar. The PX4D offers a variety of sounds that include vintage amps, a wide range of cabinets, and 158 effects, all using Korg's REMS modeling technology. Up to seven effects can be linked at one time.

A selection of 25 amplifier sounds and 23 cabinet models have been specially created for the PX4D. The unit also provides 100 preset programs and 100 user programs, for storing amp/cabinet combinations with effects. For practice and songwriting, a Bass Canceller function can remove the bass sound from external audio sources.

The PX4A, designed for use with acoustic instruments that have piezo pickups, also utilizes REMS technology and offers 82 effect types. In addition to dynamic and time-based effects, such as delay and echo, a variety of mic and body effects simulate acoustic resonance and instrument miking techniques. Also included is a notch filter for protection against feedback, and an auto notch function that automatically detects the feedback point during performance. The PX4A features 50 preset programs and 50 user programs that allow up to eight simultaneous effects per program.

Both units include practice and performance functions that are accessible using the knob-based interface and backlit LCD display. The Tap button can be used to set delay times or a rhythm pattern tempo. The Phrase Trainer can record up to 30 seconds from an external audio source for looped playback, which can then be slowed down without affecting the pitch. While in Phrase Trainer mode, you can record any of the 100 PCM-based, built-in rhythm and bass patterns and their instrument simultaneously, then practice soloing over the recorded phrase. The Aux In jack lets you play along with external audio sources, and a Key Transpose function can shift the key of the external audio. An Auto Chromatic Tuner with a Mute function is also included.
