Kjaerhus Audio has released Spectra (Win; $158 until February 3, 2006), a software synthesizer that combines multistage additive synthesis with subtractive synthesis. Spectra has a 250-partial additive engine with up to eight detunable oscillators per Voice. Up to 100 harmonies can be made on a timeline for re-synthesis and harmony morphing, and an audio analyzer is available to convert WAV files into harmonies.

The subtractive section includes 12 analog modeled resonant filters, two of which can go into self-oscillation. Two LFOs are available for tremolo, vibrato, and filter modulation. Five flexible multipoint envelopes with looping and timestretch capabilities are available to control amplitude, filter cut-off, pitch, and modulation level for each of the two LFOs.

The effect section features chorus /flanger, delay, phaser, and reverb. A 2-bank preset system is available for easy program handling. For more information, visit Kjaerhus Audio online.
