E-mu Systems announced a number of interesting new products last week, including the Xboard 25 and Xboard 49 USB/MIDI controllers (Mac/Win), the 1616M and 1616 CardBus digital audio interfaces (Win), and the Mo’Phatt X, Planet Earth X, and Virtuoso X legacy sound-module libraries for the Proteus X (Win) and Emulator X (Win) desktop instruments.

The Xboard 25 and Xboard 49 feature full-size Velocity sensitive keyboards with Aftertouch, 16 programmable real-time controllers, Xboard Control editing software, and E-mu’s Proteus X LE Desktop Sound Module with over 1000 sounds. The Xboard controllers allow you to set discrete MIDI channels for each controller and offer real-time control and performance features, including Snap Shot, which lets you send multiple program changes and controller values by pressing a single button. The Xboard Latch Mode enables you to define a section of the keyboard as on/off triggers. Both Xboard models are portable and can run on USB, battery, or AC power.

The E-MU 1616M and 1616 CardBus include a PCMCIA card and compact MicroDock audio/MIDI interface that deliver the same DSP effects, zero-latency monitoring, and 24-bit, 192 kHz A/D/A converters as E-mu’s PCI Digital Audio Systems. The PCMCIA card can be used standalone for its DSP power and studio-quality headphone amp, or plugged into the MicroDock for a total of 16 inputs and 16 outputs with MIDI I/O. Included are two preamps with Neutrik connectors, 48V phantom power, and an analog soft-limiting circuit for clip protection. The CardBus Digital Audio Systems ship with ASIO 2 and WDM drivers for Windows XP and 2000, as well as the new Production Tools software bundle that includes Proteus X LE, and software by Steinberg, Ableton, and IK Multimedia.

Mo’Phatt X, Planet Earth X, and Virtuoso X offer every sample of E-mu’s Mo’Phatt, Planet Earth, and Virtuoso 2000 hardware sound modules. The sound libraries take advantage of the integrated synthesis and effects parameters of Proteus X and Emulator X, with over 50 Z-Plane filters and 100 tempo-based parameters per preset, as well as two discrete effects processors per preset.
