Digidesign Unveils Mbox 2

Digidesign, has unveiled the Mbox 2 (Mac/Win; $495), a USB-powered audio/MIDI interface that is bundled with Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools Ignition Pack, a collection of useful third-party applications and plug-ins. Besides adding MIDI In and Out to the original Mbox, the Mbox 2 offers four simultaneous inputs (two analog and two digital), including S/PDIF digital I/O on RCA jacks, and analog input on 1/4-inch/XLR combo jacks. Analog output is on a pair of 1/4-inch jacks. The Mbox 2 supports 24-bit, 48 kHz audio with zero-latency monitoring and offers 48V phantom power.

Pro Tools LE, which supports ReWire, gives you 32 simultaneous audio tracks (including 128 virtual audio tracks) and 256 simultaneous MIDI tracks. The program comes with 37 DigiRack plug-ins and seven Bomb Factory plug-ins. The bundled Pro Tools Ignition Pack includes Propellerhead Software Reason Adapted 3, Ableton Live Lite 4 Digidesign Edition, FXpansion BFD Lite, IK Multimedia SampleTank 2 SE, IK Multimedia AmpliTube LE, IK Multimedia T-RackS EQ, Celemony Melodyne uno essential, the Pro Tools Method One instructional DVD, the Bunker 8 REX File CD, and a 1-year membership to Broadjam.com.
