Cakewalk has unveiled Project5 Version 2 (Win; $429), as well as a native 64-bit version of Sonar 4 Producer Edition. The Project5 update, scheduled for release in April, features a streamlined design, integrated multitrack audio capabilities, multipad pattern triggering, loop reconstruction, a dynamic arpeggiator, a multimode sampling synthesizer, and the PSYN II subtractive synthesizer.

The Multipad Groove Trigger, which offers real-time, per-track pattern triggering with drag-drop functionality, lets you populate cells with audio clips and MIDI patterns without any disruption to the audio engine. Live control via MIDI is supported. The Loop Reconstruction feature offers per-slice control of pitch, pan, and gain, with the ability to export Acid-format loops.

The Multi-mode Sampling Synthesizer is the first rgc:audio-engineered plug-in to be included in a Cakewalk product (Cakewalk recently acquired rgc:audio). The instrument lets you mix and layer tones using up to four voices from stereo samples, wave-guide synthesis, and analog style synthesis. The PSYN II synthesizer provides subtractive synthesis modeling, and includes drive, delay, and modulation effects.

Cakewalk's Sonar x64 Technology Preview includes the entire Sonar 4 (Win) application, along with a collection of additional DirectX effects, synths, and samplers to, according to the manufacturer, spotlight the advantages of music production in a 64-bit processing environment. The program is now available for free download from the Cakewalk Web site at http://www.cakewalk.com/x64 www.cakewalk.com/x64. A free pre-release beta version Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is available for download at www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit.
