TC Electronic is shipping the Tube-Tech CL 1B plug-in ($995) for Digidesign Pro Tools | HD. The CL 1B plug-in, which is based on component emulation technology, is said to bring the sound of the CL 1B compressor/limiter to Pro Tools | HD, HD Accel, and Venue systems.
The plug-in features attack and release controls with three different settings, allowing the CL 1B to be used as an insert- or bus compressor. In addition, the plug-in offers up to 30 dB of gain and a variable stepless ratio ranging from 2:1 to 10:1.
The Sidechain/Link button in the stereo instance of CL 1B recreates the master/slave relationship between the left and right channels. According to TC Electronic, this feature is usually found when two mono units are interconnected via the Sidechain Bus found on the hardware version of CL 1B. Using this feature, you can set whether the control of the compression is to be fixed at either left or right.
More features include advanced metering, which can display the left channel, the right channel, or both channels; and an algorithm that allows the use of up to two instances in mono/stereo at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, or one instance in mono/stereo at 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz per DSP chip on Pro Tools | HD Accel hardware. On Pro Tools|HD Core hardware, one instance is supported per DSP at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz.
