Digidesign Unveils 003 Family

Digidesign's new 003 family—the 003 Factory, the 003 Rack, and the 003 Rack Factory—offers analog and digital I/O for Pro Tools, high-definition audio resolution, a large bundle of instrument and effects plug-ins, and compatible applications and sound libraries, such as the Pro Tools Ignition Pack 2 software collection.

The 003 Factory ($2,495) offers analog and digital I/O—including MIDI, ADAT optical, and S/PDIF digital—as well as synchronization with other external devices via its BNC Word Clock I/O, the ability to function as a standalone MIDI controller, and FireWire connectivity. The unit offers eight touch-sensitive motorized faders, eight motion-sensitive rotary encoders, and a jog/shuttle wheel, allowing you to control multiple elements at the same time, such as volume, panning, sends, inserts (plug-ins), automation control, and audio and video scrubbing.

In addition to Pro Tools LE software, the 003 Factory includes the premium Factory software bundle, which adds a hefty collection of Digidesign and Bomb Factory plug-ins. Also included is the Pro Tools Ignition Pack 2 Pro bundle.

The 003 Rack ($1,295) is the rackmount version of the 003 Factory. Packaging everything in a 2U rackmount chassis, the 003 Rack includes the Pro Tools Ignition Pack 2, which features much of the same software found in Pro Tools Ignition Pack 2 Pro.

Lastly, the 003 Rack Factory ($1,695) mirrors everything about the 003 Rack, but adds the premium Factory software bundle and Pro Tools Ignition Pack 2 Pro.

The 003 family is expected to ship on March 15, 2007.

The Turbocharged 003 Exchange Program
To celebrate the launch of the 003 family, Digidesign is offering a special upgrade program: from now through June 20, 2007, owners of Steinberg Cubase, Nuendo, or Cakewalk Sonar—and any USB, FireWire, or PCI/PCIe hardware audio interface—can exchange up to any 003 system at discounted prices at participating Digidesign dealers. Current Pro Tools LE owners can also upgrade to any 003 system from a Digi 001, Digi ToolBox, Mbox, Mbox 2, or Mbox 2 Mini.
