Korg Ships NanoSeries Controllers

Korg has launched its Nano Series of compact USB-powered controllers with three new products: the NanoKey, the NanoPad, and the NanoKontrol. These controllers get their name from their slim dimensions and light weight.

The NanoKey ($62) is a 25-key, Velocity-sensitive MIDI keyboard controller. Its keys can be set to send MIDI control data, and it features an Octave Shift up/down function, Pitch up/down, and Modulation buttons. This unit measures 12.6" W x 3.27" D x 0.55" H and weighs 0.49 lbs.

Next in line is the NanoPad ($72) drum pad controller, which features 12 Velocity-sensitive trigger pads that can send both note and MIDI CC data. It also offers an X/Y pad that provides real-time control of roll timing, flam timing, and dynamics; the ability to send MIDI Control Change messages; and a Chord Trigger function that lets you enter chords onto a single pad. The NanoPad measures 12.6" W x 3.23" D x 0.65" H and weighs just 0.73 lbs.

Lastly, the NanoKontrol ($72) offers 9 faders, 9 knobs, 18 switches, and a full transport section. This unit measures 12.6" W x 3.23" D x 1.16" H and weighs 0.64 lbs. The NanoKontrol, which has 4 programmable scenes, can transmit 168 different MIDI Control Change messages, as well as MIDI notes via the switches. The six transport buttons can transmit either MIDI Control Change or MIDI Machine Control data to control functions such as start, stop, loop, or record within your DAW. Attack and decay times can be specified for the 18 switches, allowing you to feed controller messages to parameters that require a range of values, such as effect wet/dry level, synth filter, or volume fader.

Korg is offering complementary software to those who purchase a Nano Series product. The NanoKey comes with a download code for the full version of Korg M1Le software, as well as an upgrade path to the Korg Legacy Digital Edition software suite. In similar fashion, the NanoPad comes with a download code for Toontrack EZdrummer Lite and the opportunity to buy a specially priced upgrade to the full version. The NanoKontrol includes a discount coupon for Ableton Live.
